Society and Sight Loss Centre Home Page

We are a small, independent local charity, offering a programme of practical support and equipment to address the challenges of sight loss.
The heart of our work is promoting the well-being and independence of blind & partially sighted people in Bury and surrounding areas.
We rely solely on grants, donations and local fundraising to maintain these services.

Coming Up
Wednesday 13th May – GM Walking & Wheeling
Join us for Steps Beyond Sight as part of the GM Walking Festival 2026. Starting from the Centre at 1:30pm, we’ll enjoy a gentle walk of approximately 1.5 miles to our rest stop (turns out it’s a bit further than Google promised us last week… we’ve double-checked with real feet now!) then the return which will be another 1.5 miles.

There’ll be a well-earned biscuit—and maybe a brew at The Lamppost Café if we can make it. Then we'll head back together, with support available throughout.
Please register in advance so we can arrange enough sighted guides.
Come along and celebrate walking together as a community!
An Audience with Gill Currie - Join us as we celebrate Gill’s retirement from Bury Blind Society, marking more than a decade of dedicated service - first as a volunteer then as a member of staff. Enjoy a light lunch, followed by an informal conversation with Gill about her life, her achievements in vision impaired sport, and her role as an ambassador for sight loss - finishing with time for your questions. Book online https://tinyurl.com/yc3n29kt or pop in to reception, tickets just £10. At Bury Masonic Hall, 25 Parson's Lane, BL9 0LY. Wednesday 20th May 12.30 - 3pm.
